Comm. Arts
We will be doing Writing Workshop all year. First quarter, we are focusing on narrative writing three to four times a week. The other day or two, we will be reviewing parts of speech. We will also be learning how to do descriptive writing using a chocolate chip cookie, and also learning forms of writing by playing Family Feud.
In second quarter we will start argumentative writing. We will be taking notes and watching Powerpoints to help us know how to write a well written essay.

Overview of what we will be doing third quarter
In the month of January our class has started two new projects. In Reading we will start a poetry webquest, and in Comm. Arts we are creating a PowerPoint on the year 2020, after we finish our argumentative writing.
The Comm. Arts project that we are creating is our prefect new world:
In the future, Earth has become a horrible place to live. Violence has run rampant; countries destroying one another with powerful bombs. One scientist has decided to give the future generations a chance of peace and prosperity by sending children up to one year old to a planet much like Earth that he discovered. He loads the babies up in cryogenic sleeping chambers aboard a space ship, and they make their way to the new planet.
However, little does he know that the older brother of one of the babies has slipped on board to say goodbye to his sibling. Before the boy can leave, the doors shut, and the ship takes off just as the Earth is being destroyed, trapping him inside.
Four months into the trip, the scientist dies of radiation poisoning, leaving the boy in charge of the babies' well being. It is his job to get the children safely to the new planet and lead them in starting a new perfect world.
Students will be portraying the boy is this project. Now in the third generation, they will tell, in a PowerPoint, how he lead the other children to create the perfect world and what it's like there. Students will come up with the laws that govern the land, what type of government it is ruled by, even the daily lives of an average family in the new world.
In Reading, we will be doing a poetry webquest, learning different types of poems. Students will be teaching each other from the research they found and writing eight different types of poems. They will pick their favorite poem that they have written to make a podcast, create a picture and their own music, which will be put into iMovie to be put on the website and be presented at a family night.
Happy Valentines Day
In the month of February, our class will be continuing to work on the projects we started last month. We will also be focusing on different areas that we need strength in for the MAP.
In the month of March for Comm. Arts, we will continue to focus on different areas that we need strength in for the MAP. We will be working individually, with a partner, and in groups.
In Reading, we will be finishing our Podcast and turning them all into an iMovie.
